When I started my computer today all of my icons had dissappeared along with
my start menu. I am only able to launch programs through the task manager.
my cd drive is also un accessable and it tells me i must see the computer
administrator for access.
I am the computer administrator! how can i reset my computer to its old
display settings without being able to acess the start menu?

I just had this same problem. Sometimes it would work and other times it
would start with nothing but the desktop picture. I tried everything to no
avail. I reformatted the hard drive and it took me about three hours after
everything. Not a bad idea to reformat once in a while anyway. Rick

This may sound like an odd question but are you running a two monitors. If
you are not running two monitors and messed with your video settings by
checking the "extend by desktop" your computer and video are ok.

I had a user with a laptop plugged into a docking station with this same
problem. He was using an external monitor and extended his video. Wth the
laptop closed the video for the desktop would not display by the extended
video appeared on the external monitor. Of course the external display was
void of icons or a taskbar.

Try booting to safe mode and see what happens.
