Icon text background

My desktop icon text used to have a transparent background, now it's opaque
with the background colour being the colour selected in the display
settings>desktop. It only affects one account.
As no one who uses the computer knows that they actually did it or even how
they did it I don't know how to restore it to transparent. Any practical
suggestions?
I use xp pro sp2 + all updates.

To remove the backgrounds from behind icon text do this:

Right-click My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Performance tab>Settings>Visual
Effects>put a checkmark beside the option "Use drop shadows for icon labels
on the desktop>Apply>OK>OK. Your screen will flicker a bit while it making
this change, but when it is finished you should have desktop icons with text
only and no background colors.

Thanks, but it didn't work. It was already checked. Clearing/resetting the
check box didn't work either.
