Desktop icons changed

Something I apparently did seems to have inadvertantly changed my desktop
icon text background from transparent to opaque. Where/how do I set it
back?

1.Remove all Active desktop items :
.... Right click Desktop
.... Properties
.... Desktop tab
.... Customize desktop button
.... Web tab
.... Uncheck all items and click OK

2. Uncheck Lock icons
.... Right click Desktop
.... Point to Arrange icons by
.... Uncheck "Lock web items"

3. Use Drop shadows for icons
.... Click Start
.... Click Run
.... Type sysdm.cpl ,3
.... Click Enter
.... Click the first "Settings" button
.... Scroll down and tick "Use drop shadows for icon labels...."

Thanks. That's the first thing I tried. Nothing there mentions transparency and nothing else
I tried there removes the blue text background.

Thanks. That works. It seems odd that a similar option in Desktop
Properties -> Appearance -> Effects didn't do the same thing.
