Hello,

Using XP pro.

I did a repair re-install, then updated using windows updates. When I
rebooted, the background of the desktop icons are not transparent. The text
below the icons is. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance,
Ned

Something to try,

Click Start, right click My Computer, select Properties,
click Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings button,
scroll down and place a check mark for -
Use drop shadows for Icon labels on the desktop.

Reboot to take effect.

The setting is already checked. The text below the icon is already
transparent, but the icon itself is messed up.

What's next?

I've had some luck changing the background color,

Control panel,
Display,
Appearance,
Advanced,
Item - Desktop

Try to change the color to match the background.
