Icon problem

When I change the program associated with certain types of files (.mid, .mp3
etc.), the files on my desktop and elsewhere retain the icons for the
program they were previously associated with. If I double-click those
icons, they open in the new program. I know this is not a very serious
problem in the overall scheme of things, but it's frustrating. Does anyone
know of a fix?

How do you change it? If using Open With to change it over rides the default verbs only - it does NOT change anything unless it is a file without a definition - in which case it create a bare bones file type and the Open With program that is used Icon becomes the Icon for that file type (cos one isn't specified and windows guesses the app is appropiate)..
