Icon arrangement for various screen settings

I work with high definition screen (1600x1200) on my laptop, and I place my icons where I like them most
Then I do Power Point presentations with a videoprojector, and have to reset the screen to 1024x768 for frequency reasons. The icons go where they like, of course. When I switch back to 1600x1200 it takes me several minutes to re-arrange the whole lot.
Isn't there a less stupid way of spending my time? Any .inf file that I can save and recover at any screen resolution change

their original place.

What about a right click on the mouse at the desk top and go through the
arrange Icon s? Mine go right bac to where I put them.
