IBM ThinkPad: Windows Automated Recovery Disk

B

Brendan

Hello,

This morning when I went to turn on my normally-properly-functioning
IBM ThinkPad, it gave me the option to continue in safe mode. It
didn't specify the problem. Anyway, I opted to proceed in 'normal'
mode and it got stuck on the 'Windows XP Professional' screen and
didn't go any further. So, I tried to start up in the other
'different' modes and I got the same. In the beginning, there was a
blue screen that mentioned something about a 'winserv' file missing or
something like that but now that screen doesn't come back.

So, I put the Windows XP Professional CD Rom in the computer and opted
to boot from the CD. I then noticed that if I hit F11 that I can do a
'recovery' procedure. So, I hit that and a blue screen appeared and
told me to insert the 'Windows Automated Recovery Disk' into the
floppy drive. Well, I haven't got a floppy drive. Could anyone tell me
how I should proceed?

Thanks.

Brendan

hi,

ASR needs to be created thru Backup utility on the same system. So when repair required this can be used for recovery. you are Late. I dont think ASR disk created on a different system can be used
