Highspeed

During install of XP Pro, I get a message that the setup cannot find the
i386 directory. The drive is a brand new 120GB WD. I formatted with NTFS
and had no problems until it asked for this. I tried to go to browse and
then it cannot find the CD-ROM, so I click cancel and the install continues
normally. When it comes to reboot after completing installation I get the
Windows XP splash screen and then black and nothing. Any ideas on why this
is?

Thanks

Examine the Windows XP CD and make sure it is absolutely "pristine clean"
with no scratches, fingerprints or smudges. Use a mild non-ammonia based
household cleaning solution and a soft cloth to clean it. Make sure you only
use the original Windows XP Pro installation CD with the holographic design
and not a burned copy.

If the hard drive is FAT32, you can boot from a floppy and use XCOPY to
copy from the CD to the hard drive.

If it's NTFS, you can do that with the recovery console, which is
essentially a 7 megabyte version of MS-DOS with NTFS support. It's on
the CD and you can boot into it, you can also install it on the hard
drive as one OS of a multi-boot configuration (on my system, I have
"dual boot" with 3 "OS", Win98SE (on C:), Windows XP (on D:) and the XP
"Recovery Console" (it's installed as a folder, "Cmdcons" on C:), all
fully supported by the standard Microsoft muti-boot utility.

OK. Well I hope they (Highspeed) can do that.
