My OS is Windows XP Professional , the file system is
NTFS and I would like to Format my hard drive with out
using windows XP CD.
I tried to do it form DOS but I kept getting this message
( cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted
first.)
Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N>
then I write Y ( Enter )
It will write ( Cannot Lock Drive. The volume is still in
use.

and to dismount a volume on drive C
i did this ( fsutil volume dismount C: ) but it did not
work too.

Any idea , thanks

A hard drive which contains an active install of Windows cannot be formatted
while WIndows is running. You will have to use the CD.

Are you trying to do a clean install of XP? If so then boot from the XP CD
and you can format the HD to your hearts content from there.
