i want to recover a file that was overwritten. can it be done

Yesterday I downloaded a file from my yahoo account, i opened it , worked on
it and saved it. However couldn't find it today so tried opening the file
again from yahoo to see where it went. I then went to search and it showed
the file but gave today's date. I then opened it and had the original file
that was downloaded but with none of yesterday's additions on it. Does anyone
know if i can retrieve the file with yaesterday's work on it. I alreday
checked and there is no Version data on it.

All you did was save a temp file. I don't know if you can retrieve it.
Should have saved it in an easily remembered location, did your editing,
then saved it again. That is provided you were sure you wanted those
changes. Seems a lot of people lately are not saving changes or making them
and then changing their minds the next day.
