hey!

well... i want to upgrade my intel celeron processor to a intel pentium 4
processor, sounds simple but i just dont know which one to buy because off
all the different types of P4's. i found my CPU support file on my computer
and this is what it says

Socket mPGA 478B
Supports Intel P4 FC-PGA2 (Flip-Chip Pin Grid Array), 1400 MHz to 2800 MHz.
Warning: not all the above processors have been qualified.

hmmm... could anyone find a website (such as pcworld) where i can buy one of
these because ive looked everywhere but just cant find one as the support
file says,

need anymore info. about my PC just ask

There are several different subsets of the Intel Pentium 4
CPU that a visit to the website of the computer manufacturer
or motherboard website is advised. And take note that the
Socket 478 CPU has essentially been replaced by Socket 775
CPU's. Don't wait too long on deciding the upgrade.

What you need to do is to determine the make, model, and revision
number of your computer's motherboard. Then go to the motherboard
manufacturer's website and check out the CPU models that are
compatible with your exact motherboard model and revision number.

Good luck

There is far more to increasing speed of your processor than merely
replacing a celeron with a pentium.
The design of the motherboard may not allow use of a pentium.
Hence you may need a new motherboard.
However, the new motherboard may not fit your case.
Also, the new motherboard may not accept your existing memory.
Next, you would probably like to install SATA drives which your current
computer probably doesn't have.
When all is said and done, it would probably be cheaper just to build a new
computer.

I have upgraded a few Celeron to P4. With the price of P4's dropping as the
switch to dual core is about to happen it can be very cost effective. It can
make a great deal of difference in the performance. One client went from a
1.8 GHz Celeron to a 2.4 GHz P4. She uses PaintShop Pro and other graphics
programs. She is very happy with the speed increase. In the ever changing
world of computer parts prices things change very quickly. Right now a
Celeron to P4 upgrade may be well worth it. This time last year it wasn't.

I wouldn't buy anyhting from Savastore. I am in UK and their service is
the worst. They don't normally have anything in stock but there are
very fast to charge your credit card.

They don't reply to emails or telephones or faxes. All in all, it is a
nightmare resolving anything with them.

You have got the make & model and so you can buy it from somewhere else.

Upgrading your CPU from Celeron to P4 then you would need to check if that P4 is compatible with your present Motherboard. It might not be. Check with the manufacturer for the MOBO if compatible.
