I want messenger dead

I thought I got rid of windows messenger on my XP run computer, but it the
last couple days every time I log onto the internet I get a pop up box
saying I need to upgrade my messenger for security reasons, it's beginning
to be a hassle and extra click every time I jump on the internet. How do I
KILL the damn thing? thank you
 
To remove Windows Messenger from OE:
In OE:
Click on Tools/Options--on the general tab uncheck Automatically log on to
Windows Messenger

bye-bye Messenger!!


And if you'd really like to be rid of it, try this:

Start | Run | "RunDLL32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove" (without the quotes)
which should uninstall Messenger entirely

Note: Removing Windows Messenger will cause Whiteboard, Remote Assistance,
and Application Sharing to operate improperly, and may cause them to fail
altogether.

My fix: Go to Add/Remove Programs, and uncheck Windows Messenger from
there. Next, got to Set Program Access and Defaults, and uncheck, "Allow
Access to this Program" for Windows Messenger.
