If you can find the public funding, I'll take my search engine code and
build it.
It will take:
$2k~$20K per month for ISP hosting.
$5K per 2U machine, with disk, we'll need about a hundred or two of them.
We'll need a great deal with the ISP for bandwidth, because we will be
crawling 4 billion pages on a regular basis.
We'll need a 24x7 on-line admin
We'll need a few web guys and a couple SQL guys, standard salary.
We could probably launch in 6 months.
There would be no need for GNUGLE to be available to the general public.
Just to Linux users.
Hi John Buy Low , Sell High ,
You whine : " I want a GNU Search Engine "

" Google is meeting with bankers in preparation for
its highly anticipated initial public offering .
The Times reported that Microsoft's overture
appears to have gained little traction
as Google indicates
it still prefers going the IPO route. "
Ask yourself this question John :
" Why has the GNU philosophy continued to fail us ? "

For a community that promotes freedom and openness, that would be extremely
restrictive.
And how would you even know if a client is a Linux user?

You say :
" Much of the internet
is running on GNU / Open source software . "
Yes , Including Google itself .
But Google is doing an IPO ...
What works , works ... Why be a purist at all costs ?
Bailo loves playing the martyr ...
Like that drunk I saw the other day
saying " I'm Jesus ! I'm Jesus ! "
as the campus cops handcuffed him .

build their own competing product ? "
Because Google is _ Smarter _ than Microsoft ?
Pit Money vs. Smarts and Smarts wins every time .
But that doesn't mean that GNU won and Google lost .
Wiki is an amazingly good concept ,
but _ Some _ money is always need ...
Hence Google beat Wiki .
http://wiki.org/wiki.cgi?WhatIsWiki :
" The first ever wiki site was created for
the Portland Pattern Repository in 1995 .
That site now hosts tens of thousands of pages . "

Attention all readers . ( Yes ... Both of you ! )
John Anthony Bailo , M.D.
has asked your royal author ( me ) :
" Why can't you address your posts to the group
instead of to * me * in particular ? "
Why don't you try plonking me ?
