I used to LOVE Norton !

.....well ...after stripping out EVERYTHING SYMANTEC (Norton), and
having a major manual cleanup to make sure that everything Symantec/Norton
was gone, ....everything is HEAVENLY !!

I then installed, ( just for fun - ...call me a glutton for punishment ! ),
Norton Internet Security 2003 OEM, that I bought ages ago and which would
NOT install and run properly on any PC, (that I tried it on), whatosever (
several 98/ME/W2k/XP machines ), and it's LOVerrrrrrrrrrLy on my XP Home ed.
SP2 etc. machine. i.e. my bootup's faster than been for months - desktop
icons ALL appear in the blink of an eye, and Shutdown is MUCH faster than it
ever was.

So the moral of the my tale, I think, is "Norton 2003 Internet Security OEM"
at least, is lovely - IF one gets completely rid of ALL previous Symantec
Software.

....oh s**t ! ....I need to use Norton Ghost, ....I wonder what'll happen
after I install that !

didn't you know that symantec has a complete norton removal
tool on their site.??
oh well. computers come with so much useless junk now, that
you relly hate to even think about a reformat with a oem
disc. 13 hours to fully bring the system back to what it
was set at before restore. dialup updates suck.
by the way i am one of those that has rarely ever had a
problem with norton. even though it uses about 60 megs of
ram. (norton internet security)

Shut down and "Disable" the NT Service; "GhostStartService"
Remove any Ghost references from;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I swore of Norton years ago, to me, it is another virus, like AOL. It hurts
me to know that Norton/Symantec bought out PowerQuest. DriveImage is/was a
good program.

I agree that it doesn't run as smooth as the 2003 version. It does have the
habit of slowing down you computer. However, I trust Symantec protection
better than McAfee and most other virus protections.

What seems to be the problem?

symantec's Norton products; have too big a system footprint, are too prone
to crashing, arent updated often enough, are expensive, are intrusive in
operation, are always full of bugs.

item. Both are very good. Big companies don't turn good
software to bad, but usually the support suffers.
