I updated Outlook and now I can't open known good email attachmen.

I have Outlook Express organized to hold not only emails, but their relevant
attachments. These attachments are all known good, previously viewed files,
mainly .doc, but also .xls, .tiff, and .pdf.

Yesterday I upgraded Outlook Express and now I can't open any of the
attachments. They have all been labelled "unsafe," which is not true.

How do I recover my files? This is urgent because this work was key to my
portfolio, and without it I have nothing to show for years of effort on
several projects.
 
Tools | Options | Security, clear the box for "Do not allow attachments..."
Hopefully you have good, up-to-date antivirus software running on your PC.
Also, note that Outlook Express and Outlook are actually two separate
products despite the unfortunately similar name, and OE has its own
newsgroups.
