Hello,

I am having many problems with Windows 2000. The problem that applies
to this group is that Group Policy appears to be dead:

Date: 5/30/2006 Source: Userenv
Time: 20:41 Category: None
Type: Error Event ID: 1000
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: NAMERICA1
Description:
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO The file must be
present at the location <>. (). Group Policy processing aborted

Thank you for your help.

Howdy!

Did you alter security permissions (NTFS) on the group policy?
"Authenticated Users" must at least have "Read" and "Apply" access.
Are there mutiple network cards in your machine? If so, change the
binding order of the cards.

cheers,

Hello,

I did that, and the Group Policy decided to work. But now I get
strange messages. On Windows 98 clients, the first time they log on in
the morning it comes up "access to your logon server was denied or your
password was incorrect" but it works after the second time. Sometimes
on the Win98 clients instead of that error it just sits there for like
two minutes just doing nothing, the runs the logon script.

And, to make matters worse, now Group Policy isn't propagating
correctly. I get SceCli 1202 events with "0x4d2: An extended error has
occurred". In the Winlogon.log file I see:

----Configure Registry Keys...
Configure machine\hardware.
[snip]
Configure machine\software\Microsoft.
Warning 6: The handle is invalid.
Error seting security on machine\software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\009.

Registry keys configuration completed with error.

This happens every seven minutes (when Group Policy propagates) and it
causes the system to slow up. I don't know if the system is supposed
to slow up when Group Policy propagates or not, but every seven minutes
(which is when I get the warning in the Event Logs and the Winlogon.log
file) it acts like a 386 or something, really slow. I tried to open up
MPlayer2 and it took over two minutes to start because it was
'thinking'. I also noticed whenever this happens that SERVICES.EXE CPU
usage goes to 99%. Then afterwards System Idle Process takes back
over, but it's still chugging away and slow. Then it speeds back up
and I can use it to go online or Notepad or whatever.

Please help me, I'm at a loss! I Google'd 'till I just couldn't Google
no more. :)
