Hi all,
I have a strange problem with XP Pro (with SP-1). Just for some background
info: I'm all up to date on my Windows Updates. I have a Linksys router and
3 computers on my small home network. It's a Pentium 4 1.7Ghz system with
768mb RAM. Now, on to my wierd issue:
The "right click" menu (I'm not sure what it's called) is always very slow
to appear when I click on a file or a folder, sometimes up to 10 seconds.
Say I want to delete or rename a file. When I right click on this I have to
wait for the menu to appear. It used to be instantaneous. It also takes time
to delete a file from the keyboard. If I click on a file and press "delete"
on the keyboard, it can take several seconds for the confirmation dialog box
to come up. The wierd thing about it is that whenever I do these functions,
I notice that there's always activity on the LAN indicator on my system
tray.
When I right click or press delete on the keyboard, about 3 seconds will go
by then I'll notice some activity on the LAN icon, which is always
indicating that packets are getting sent (about 6 packets every time). Then
another 3 or 4 seconds will go by and the dialog box or menu will appear.
Why would packets be getting sent when I delete a file, and where are they
going? I disabled the LAN from the "Network Connections" screen (by choosing
the LAN connection, then clicking "Disable this Network Device") and the
problem went away. No more slow deletes or slow "right click" menu's. This
is strange to me...
Anyone have any idea why this happens? I've looked around the MIcrosoft
knowledge base a bit, but was not really successful. Any replies would be
greatly appreciated as this is REALLY annoying for me. Thanks.
