I got a new hard drive and used the maxtor program that
came with it to transfer everything from my old hard
drive. After doing so I opened a can of worms... hardly
anything works properly. I can't even shut down the
system from the start menu. I had similar troubles last
year and someone instructed me on wiping the hard drive
clean and starting over again I no longer have the
instructions on doing so and would like to do it again. I
tried restarting manually with the XP CD and didn't see
the options I faintly remember from last year. Can
someone please help?
Thank You, Frank

You can boot from the XP CD. It has all the tools necessary to partition,
format, and install XP.

I tried putting the XP CD in the drive and restarting. It
seems like when I did it before some options came up
before the desktop came up. This time it goes right to
the desktop. Is there some way to get the option to do
what I need before the desktop comes up? I am not a very
technical person and would appreciate any help.
Thank You, Frank

Frank, you may have to go into the BIOS and set the CD drive as the first
boot device. Then you may get a message to push any key to boot from the CD.
