Let me just say that I love Windows XP, but the trouble I am having is...
About 6 months ago my youngest son down loaded a virus, and I tried to clean
the registry files myself but I guess I deleted some files that I shouldn't
have. Anyway my computer is giving me a bunch of error messages when I am
trying to perform a new install of Windows XP Professional. The error
messages are "NTLDR missing" Please press ctl+alt+del to restart your
computer. Well I fixed that problem now when I use the 6 different boot disks
that I had downloaded. It works this was after I had fixed the NTLDR missing
Problem, now the error message that I am getting after I reformat my drive
using the boot disks and the restoration cd that came with my computer is
something like "sp1.cab file missing or corrupt, windows cannot complete the
installation.
Can anybody out there help me please???

it appears to be missing servie pack 1 cabinet file, ie it needs service pack
1 to be accessible, maybe you could use a friends pc and download it, then
save it to your pc.

The problem is that you are trying to "repair" an XP SP1 installation with a
Plain XP CD.
cant be done unless you download SP1 and Slipstream it into XP.
If your CD/DVD does not work and you have no friends that can do this for
you....then you will need to do a
NEW installation wiping/formatting your HD in the process....hope you have
everything backed up and copies
of all of the programs/games you have installed.

Wipe the drive, put XP on totally fresh.

Just out of curiosity, how are you planning on installing Windows XP from a
CD if your CD drive doesn't work?
