i need help

ok this is the story i bought a crossover wire for my
desktop and laptop. this was as i am sure you all knwo to
build a small network between the two. i set it and all
that fun stuff, the like is working and i am able to
access parts of the other computer on the other one and
vica virsa, but i am unable to get to the program files,
and windows folders on either of the hard drives. i have
right clicked it and tried to check the box to establish
the link, and i have even followed all the steps the
software says to do, but i am still onable to make the
two work together. i am wondering if any one knows any
tricks or knows if i am not doing something right. thank
you very much.
