From the article (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290684) you followed all
the instructions under the Windows 2000 section to the letter about changing
the permissions etc on the key prior to being able to delete it ?

Try Doug's solution:

This fix applies to Outlook and other programs that store passwords
in the Protected Storage System Provider sub-branch of the Registry.
It also corrects some issues with Internet Explorer and Autocomplete.

thanks for responding but I am begining to wonder if I speak a foreign
language, which part of 'I am unable to delete the subkey' have I written in
venusian? I have posted this several times now and people (God bless them
have all come up with the same response as Dougs)

I cannot delete the subkey
I have copied and saved the protected storage system provider
I have all permissions set to full control etc etc
I am totally unable to delete the subkey which looks something like
S-1-5-21-1085031214-1202660629-1708537768-1003

so what do I do next?

We are having trouble understanding why you are having an issue with this;
as the instruction in the article if followed will result in you being able
to delete the key.

I know you said "... I have all permissions set to full control etc etc
...." - but by that you do mean that you have added the appropriate account
to the permissions and fixed the inheritance etc exactly as described in
the article ?
