Is it your Menu Bar (the one with File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, etc.)
that contains two Format menus and two Insert menus? If that is correct, do
this:
Start Word. Select Tools > Customize. While the Customize dialog box is
open, delete the superfluous menus as follows (see also “Alternative methodâ€
below):
Right-click the Insert menu you want to delete and click Delete. Then
right-click the Format menu you want to delete and select Delete. Close the
Customize dialog box.
You must always be really careful when customizing so that you do not make
unintended changes.
To save the changes to Normal.dot at once, press and hold the Shift key
while you select File menu > Save All. If a dialog box opens, asking whether
to save changes to Normal.dot, click Yes.
Alternative method:
Instead of just deleting the two menus, you can reset the entire Menu Bar to
the state it was in when you first started to use Word. Select Tools >
Customize > Toolbars tab. Select Menu Bar in the list and click Reset. In the
Reset Toolbar dialog box, make sure Normal.dot is selected. Click OK. Click
Close in the Customize dialog box. Save Normal.dot as described above. Only
use this method if you are sure you have not made customizations to the Menu
Bar that you want to keep.
