where MFP=maximum frustration point...

Seriously, any help from anyone on the following would be most appreciated:

I have 2 PCs running XP and 1 PC running 95. They all see one another and
life is basically good. However, the PC running 95 cannot see the HP DeskJet
812C on one of the XP PCs. I have attempted to install the Win95 driver
option under "Sharing" numerous different ways (using the original HP CD,
looking for the driver on the 95 PC, etc.). However, it doesn't "take" after
I hit the "OK" key.

Any thoughts? Thanks. BTW, I've posted this exact question on the Win95
newsgroup as well.

You should not have to install the Win95 driver on the XP printer host.
The driver must be installed on the Win95 computer. On the Win95
computer, open the printer properties, select ports, new port, and enter
the Netbios address of the printer as provided by the XP computers:
//HostXPComputer/PrinterName.

It has been many years since I dealt with Win95, so my recommendation
might not be exact, but will be a start.

Thanks. After two nights of banging my head against the wall, this is at
least a new approach. I'll try it and let you know how it goes. FYI, all of
the MS documentation on what to do seems indicates that the XP host needs to
"updated" with the 95 driver.

check that the share name(of the printer) does not exceed 8 characters also

eg. shared as "HP812C" should work fine but "HPDESKJET812C" might give you
problems in win95

Thanks: your advice worked like a charm!

Haggis:

Thanks for the heads up, but the full name, with spaces and all, worked fine.

What's the docs were saying was probably that XP could offer the Win95
driver to Win95 machines if it had a copy. Still the driver needs to end up
somehow on the Win95 machine.

It has been a while but I think the limit for Win95 is 12 characters and
spaces are ok, although not all software handles them correctly.
