Well, in fact the problem is only between win95 and Xp.
I have a fixed IP network, with four or five computers, most with
win98se, one with win95 (OSR2.0) and one with Xp pro.
from any of the win98 computers I see every computers, and all the
shared ressources.
from the win95 computer I only see the win98 computers.
from the Xp computer I only see the win98 computers.
When I try to access \\xphostname from win95 or \\95hostname from xp I
get an error (device does not exist)
when I type NET VIEW from the command line, I see all the hosts.
That is from dos box in win95 I see all the computers, even the Xp one,
And from the command line (cmd) undex Xp I see all the computers, even
the 95 one.
but most NET commands, such as NET USE with a shared ressource, fails
between Xp and 95 (I mean I didn't test every NET command, but
everthing I tried failed)
when I ping any computer from 98 no problems.
when I ping any 98 computer from 95 or xp no problems.
when I ping 95 from Xp or Xp from 95, I lose one or two packets out of
four.
when I run net diag from any 9x computers to any 9x computers, no
problems, either with netbios or IPX. (I also run an IPX network, and
dos stations, but at the moment they are down)
All the addresses are in the 192.168.55.xx range, file sharing is
enabled on the win9x computers, a firewall is running on the Xp
computer
I have no more ideas. Is there a diagnostic tool under Xp to test IPX
or NETBIOS from an 9x computer ?
Any ideas welcome
