If you think that Windows XP includes these apps, sorry to tell
you that you're mistaken. Neither it, nor any other version of
Windows, has ever included Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, or
any significant other application software. Such programs have to
be bought, either by themselves or as part of Microsoft Office.

If your previous computer, running an older version of Windows,
came with these apps, it was because the vendor who sold it
bundled them as part of the package he sold you, not because that
version of Windows came with them.

Greetings

Word and Excel have never been part of Windows. They can be purchased by
themselves or with Microsoft Office.

XP is an operating system. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. are separate
applications, the same as any other application you might install. These
specific applications are a part of the MS Office Suite and are also sold
individually but none of them are now nor have they ever been a part of any
Windows operating system.

Sometimes, manufacturer's bundle this software with their setups but this is
strictly up to the manufacturer.

yes

go buy the software

Greetings --

Yes, that's perfectly normal.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

If you had Word and Excel before, simply use that same
installation media that you used the first time.

As you've been told, Word and Excel do not nor have ever came with any
version of Windows. However, if you wish to try a free alternative,
here's an excellent one:

http://www.software602.com/products/pcs/

It includes a word processor, spreadsheet, and photo editor program.
The WP and Spreadsheet programs are MS Office compatible and in fact
emulate both very well. The software is free and only requires you
register it.

Also www.openoffice.org offers a free open-source office suite that can
read and write Word and Excel files.

It's a full-featured package. StarOffice from Sun Microsystems is built
from the same codebase.
