If you are referring to McAfee DAT v4285, YES. DAT v4285 covered the
Lovsan/Blaster worm.

But that depends on your idea of 'protect'. Afaik AV products can stop
the msblaster .exe from getting itself installed, however I don't think
they will stop the RPC exploit/NT Authority system/continual reboot
issues as the thing tries (and fails) to infect the PC .. to plug that,
you need the MS patch (and/or a decent firewall).

As three minds in a can said, be sure to update and patch your Windows
OS, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en
(observe their comments on the absence of a security vulnerability if
running W98SE more info at

I checked out your recommended link below and downloaded the patch. I also
read there about the firewall built into XP- which I was unaware of. It
turns out that I had that firewall running. Does that built in XP firewall
prevent the Blaster from entering a computer? I also have McAfee's firewall
running at this time. When I first installed McAfee several months ago, it's
firewall kept popping messages and warnings which all seemed to be false
alarms and I found it irritating so I turned it off. For example, I kept
having it warn me about some sort of messaging going on between my Dell and
Dell Corporation! I went to the Dell newsgroup and was told this happens on
all Dell computers. Nobody there could tell me exactly what that's all
about.

Anyways, now that I find out I have an XP built firewall, that does that
mean I don't need the McAfee firewall too?

Joe,
The built in XP firewall only works in one direction - it can't do
anything about what your computer is sending and that's exactly half the
problem. MS made it way too easy for ET to call home and now every damn
program tries it. That ties in with your Dell problem. I use Zone Alarm
(paid for version) and have had no troubles, but then I take other
precautions. Some here insist that a hardware firewall is the only real
solution.
