I noticed this problem the other day... I open "My Computer" and i see that the text of my hard drive, is in blue letters, so i double click it and up comes the different folders on my hard drive, everything is cool... except for a folder... it is labeled "Apps" it is in blue lettering(different from the other folders that have standard black lettering), inside that folder are 2 subfolders: "NAV2004" and "SVCPACK". the "NAV2004" folder is in blue lettering, so i open it, and there are various icons in it..... of the 5 icons located inside, there is yet, one more subfolder and an icon that are in blue lettering, the folder is "NAV" and the icon is "NAVSETUP"(Norton Antivirus Setup)... so i open up the folder labeled "NAV" and inside of it are 9 icons and folders... they are all labeled in blue.... what does this mean and how can i fix it... this is a 1400 mhz computer that was purchased March 30th and i am running Microsoft XP Home Edition Operating System, i have only been experiencing this problem for the past few days, and yes the folder "Apps" has been there since i bought the computer... and has not been in blue lettering... i am pretty good with computers, but this is the first computer i have used that has Xp and do not understand the blue lettering, if someone could tell me what the blue lettering means and how i can fix it... it would be greatly appreciated...

Hi Jay,
Go to Control Panel>Folder Options>click view tab>uncheck:show encrypted or
compressed NTFS files in color.
The only thing that is going on is: your computer is showing you which files
it needs to compress in order to save room on your hard drive or they are
encrypted. I used to wonder about that to-LOL! Bob.

This means you have compressed files/folders under NTFS. I would say that
you don't need to fix anything as long as all is working well. If the
filename is green, then it means the file is encrypted.

If you want to just get rid of the colors, then do this:
Open up a folder then Tools menu ---> Folder Options. Then goto the view tab
and look down the list (it was the 3rd one from the botton for me). Uncheck
"Show encryted or compressed NTFS folders in colour".

HTH.

PS: Check your line length settings in your newsreader. You should keep it
at 70.

Greetings --

By design, WinXP automatically compresses files that do not get
used frequently, and, if you've left the default settings intact,
displays those files in blue.

If you wish to change this behavior, in Windows Explorer, click
Tools > Folder Options > View > Advanced settings: Show encrypted or
compressed NTFS files in color.

The folders may be "compressed" to save space. See Help in XP, and
"Properties" on the folder concerned.
