Windows XP I have an unopened copy of OEM XP operating system

I am wondering if I can find out if it has ever been activated? I have no idea how I came to have it but it is a legitimate copy. I would like to sell it if it has not been activated but opening it reduces its value.

The copy still has a sticker on the outside of the package that I assumed was supposed to be affixed to a computer.

I am hardly a lawyer, but I would feel safe to assume that if it is still in the wrapper and as if brand new, selling it should have no repercussions. As long as the sticker is legitimate, activation could be done via MS over the phone if need be.
