I have a document with Sections/odd-even pages/ and problems print

I have to print a section at a time (13 sections in all) in a family book I
have created. I have tried printing all of the odd pages, turning the
document around and then printing all of the even pages. Sometimes the
printer spits out an extra page in the beginning and it goofs everything up
because then page 4 is on the back of page 1 and so on down the line. It
doesn't happen every time, though, which is the kicker. My pages are number
1-1, 1-2 and the next chapter is 2-1, 2-2, etc. I start the numbering over
at each chapter.

Is there a way I can seamlessly print my 13 sections x 10 books without all
of the hassle of each time seeing if there is an extra page printed, shutting
the section print job down, starting again, etc., etc?

I have looked here, and I couldn't really find an answer. I appreciate any
and all help I can get!!!! Have a wonderful day.

THANKS!!!

Hello Chris

do your sections/chapters all start on a (forced) even or odd page?

Is there a way I can seamlessly print my 13 sections x 10 books without all

the section print job down, starting again, etc., etc?

Sporadic problems are hard to pin down, but it could be a printer driver
issue.

That said, you might safe yourself a lot of grieve if you can get hold
of a printer that's able to print in duplex directly. If that's not
possible, exporting to PDF and walking to the nearest decent copy shop
might be another solution.

Are you always careful to check whether you have the same number of
even pages as you have odd pages, or whether you have one more odd
page than even pages? (Those are the only possiblities.) If the last
printed page of your section is an odd page, then remove it from the
stack before you print the even pages on the backs.

If you print the whole book, rather than a section at a time, it
should get it right because it'll let the blank even-numbered pages go
through without being printed.

Yes, the sections are forced to start on an odd page. Sometimes I have the
same number of odd/even pages in each individual section, sometimes I don't.
I will check and see if this is an issue. I guess I figured if I printed 1,
3, and 5 on the first pass that 2 would be on the back of 1, 4 would be on
the back of 3, and 5 would be by it's lonesome even if I didn't have a page
6. I don't understand why my printer would spit out the blank page at the
beginning of the print job for the even pages since page 2 is the first page,
not a blank page.

I like the suggestion that if I can get the same # of odd/even pages, I
could print the entire book and not print it a section at a time. I will
definitely give that a try .

I can't take it to Kinko's. It is 500-pages and at 99 cents a (color) page,
it would be cost prohibitive.

I appreciate the prompt and wonderful suggestions given here!!!!!! It's
nice to know there are resources we people can count on.

When I print double-sided on either of my HPs, first I do "Odd Pages
Only" and then "Reverse Pages" plus "Even Pages Only." A couple times
I used the settings for "double-sided manual" but never remember which
direction to insert the paper for the second sides. When you do it
that way, HP prints all the fronts or backs, then pauses and tells you
to reinsert the paper.

Doing it that way takes longer because it has to put into memory all
the pages instead of just half the pages at the start of the operation
(and that takes longer than doing half the pages then half the pages).

If you can do both front and back without choosing Reverse Order, then
your printer works differently from HPs.

Ouch. 500 color pages is a lot of ink cartridges.

I checked the print duplex box on the print menu, and I think I have it
figured out. It is spitting out a blank page, then all of the even pages. I
took off the blank page, inserted it in the printer, then clicked ok, and it
printed all of the odd pages correctly. It has work 3 out of 3 times!!!!!!
I will try your second option if this isn't the charm.

The finished size will be 5.5 x 8.5 mixed with family pictures and text. I
ordered all new toner cartridges for my HP 2840. Hopefully there will be
some left once this project is finished!! THANKS, Peter, for your help.
