i hate xp home search functionality

when you wanted to search something in previous versions on of windows,
it used to be just a textbox... and you type in whatever term you
search... simple as that...

the xp search, you have to carefully read options... "what do you want
to search"... ahhghhh... the text box is not presented to you right
away, until you make a choice. sometime, the search all option is not
obvious... when you finally find it... going back to it after you
cancel the search, is another corporate 1-0-1-0-1-0 switchboard...

Was this designed for beginners? why does microsoft treat its customers
as if they are stupid! for someone who likes speed like me, i really
hate it, and i hope microsoft would provide a better way...

They do. It's called "Internet Explorer." With it you can access Google,
which will point you to "Agent Ransack."

I agree. It's like old Windows users are too advanced to use a simple interface
designed for people who have never used a search function before Windows XP. My
parents still have never used the Search function in either ME or XP, so I get
no 2nd opinion from those two novices. I prefer to be able to see what files
were written in the last 1 day (to find out why my 98SE machine freezes up for 4
minutes at a time writing .dat files totalling 40 MB); I just wanna double check
that some virus wasn't involved. Searching for that kind of stuff in XP would be
just too many damn mouseclicks just to get to the 1 day Search option.

Search Advanced

I use searchadvancedoptions.vbs all the time, I would be lost with out it.
I also use Classic Search. I have a shortcut to searchadvancedoptions.vbs
on my Start Menu called ADVANCED SEARCH. I hardly ever use the regular
Search. I always forget to set the Advanced options. And Search is
worthless without the Advanced options.

You can use TweakUIXP and click on the explorer section and put a check
mark in Use classic search in explorer.

Really, seriously, I hope Windows Vista is nothing like windows XP.
Let's wait and see!

Just change it!

Start / Search / Change Preferences / Change Files and Folders search
behavior / select Advanced... OK and you are done.

If you don't like XP's searching, there are several other free choices.
Agent Ransack, for example, is a good one.

Did Microsoft actually intend to create windows XP home, or it was just

In the Search pane, go to the bottom most part and click on Change
Preferences. There you can make it go directly to entering your search
terms.
