i hate microsoft - list of features i hate

darren

sorry i know everyone has said this at least 1000 times this year
but...here are some of my pet peaves.

i have dr watson running in my task manager comsuming 95% of CPU from
an error that occurred about an hour again. I was wondering why
everything was slow and keyboard characters weren't appear properly. Is
this a type of virus? I know it doesn't replicate itself but by
providing a program on everyone's PC that can do this must be close to
the definition. i hate microsoft.

(and before you say anything about gee we wouldn't have all this stuff
it is wasn't for MS, I'm still allowed to bitch and complain alright)

here are a few other 'features' that a hate about XP. As I understand
it all are by designed and I guess will appear in Vista and probably
new ones will too.

* Auto remove unused desktop items. Great I have a service consuming my
CPU checking if unused icons can be deleted. Fanstatic. I can do it
myself. feature disabled.

* Dr Watson - as above. Program deleted.

* Treating zip files as foldes in windows explorer. OK I can understand
that. By why open and look into them??? I insert a DVD with lots of
huge zip files and it takes 15 minutes to display the contents of the
folder when all I wanted to do was view a picture. Just put the little
+ sign next to the zip file and if I click on it then show it. Yeah I
know it can be disabled but pitty those who cannot edit the registry
(or knows what it is). Feature disabled.

* Searching. I don't understand this one properly. When I search for
text in files that I know is there it, the windows search cannot find
it. WTF??? Oh it has something to do with file associations, shit of
course. Even though I said all files it ignores some, great. At least I
know how to edit the registry to change this. Why am I editing the
registry, can't it prompt me. Ah I found a solution, downloaded and
installed a proper searching tool. Job done. Have to remember not to
use MS features cos you end up sending hours tracking down problems
when it didn't give you the right information in the first place.

* Favorites. Not sorted. I can't sort them even after following MS
instructions. I can't find the option they talk about. But when I add a
new URL they are sorted, great just when you get use to one order they
change it on you.

Here is a list of my preditions of new features in Vista.

* Certain keys on the keyboard will not work until you add them to the
registry, just in case you don't want the letter E to appear sometimes
:)

* When you open a folder containing pictures, it automatically creates
an email, resizes them and adds them as attachments, just in case you
want to send them to a friend.

* Internet Browse only works at www.microsoft.com, this is a new
feature to avoid you from getting viruses or spyware. Besides why would
you go anywhere else?

* No software besides MS developed or certified (and that requires
times and a lot of money to get certified) can run. So as a developer
each time I recompile an app I have to wait 5 working days to get it
certified before I can test it.

* MS Licensing has changed so that you pay by the API call. So viruses
can now run calling a simple API function which will charge the owner
(automatically cos their banking details is linked to MS, in fact they
are a bank holding their money) $1,000 in 2.8 milliseconds. Note the
virus is certified because it will increase MS profits and that's the
only verfication that is done.

If you have read this far well done, obviously you are pissed off at MS
too.

Have a nice day.

Beats me. When you ran 2 different anti-virus programs in safe mode did
either say it was a virus?

The CPU problem has been identified by Microsoft as a problem with
Windows XP. Hopefully, an update can fix the problem in the future.
The problem does not affect Windows 98 Second Edition, fortunately. I
would upgrade your CPU driver if you can. I have been unable to do that
so far and hopefully someone can help me to update my Intel 2.4 Ghz.
driver from the default one in XP Professional.
