I.E. 6, XP Home, Cleansweep

My norton cleansweep says I have I.E. 6 history files
that I cant clear and are taking an increasing amount of
memory. i have tried manually clearing my browser. How
can one clear index.dat file in XP? That was suggested ,
but i can,t find information on how to do it. My system
says I have 5 files totalling approximately 400-600KB,
but my history folder is empty. I have already
reinstalled norton. I'm afraid to mess w/ internet
explorer to much without knowing how it will affect my
system
