My roommate told me we could install her version of Microsoft XP on my computer, and we could network our computers. I currently had Windows 2000. When I attempted to install XP i chose to delete 2000 programs. Well come to find out we couldn't activate her copy of XP on my computer and now I just want my 2000 back but it is gone, and I can't use XP either. I desperately need my programs back. What can I do?

Are you talking about the operating system or Office 2000?

i am sorry office 2000, what i did was try to use her disk to install office xp, and when i had the option of deleting the previous 2000, i deleted it because i didnt think i would need it, and then i found out i couldnt use her disk like she said, and now i don't know if i can, or how i go about getting my version back.

You can reinstall Office 2000 from your Office 2000 setup CD-Roms If you
have trouble with this you may want to post in office.setup

the only problem with that is, that my computer is one
that my work was throwing away, so it ws given to me, and
i dont have the original cd roms. are those my only
options? if i cant find those through work, will i have to
buy a new set?

Afraid that's it. There is no undo for uninstalling office 2000

Well you can use OpenOffice, a free competing package

http://www.openoffice.org/

Otherwise you will need to buy the product (2000 probably isn't available
any more but you could buy Office XP or 2003)

This could mean two things:
a) If you paid for the hardware AND the software then
you're entitled to get the media.
b) If you did not pay for the software then you may
have used it in violation of the software licence.

As a way around forking out the bucks for a new set of office disks, you
could try OpenOffice. I was having problems loading office 2000 as it was
looking for something in a windows 2000 folder that was not there. I
remembered it from a segment on TechTV and tried it. Big download (60+ MB)
but it is quick to install and it will read office files easily.

Take a look www.openoffice.org

I presume you don't have the original installation CDs...
Try this (URL may wrap) :

Greetings --

Well, have you thought of reinstalling them from the original
installation media that Office came on, in the first place?

Greetings --

If your employer did not also give you the CoA, the Product Key,
and the installation CD along with the computer, you've _never_ had a
legitimate license to use the Office, I'm afraid. If your employer
still refuses to provide these, your only option now is to either
purchase and install your own Office license, or obtain and install
some other office productivity suite.
