Did you wipe the hard drive before formatting it and, if so, how? You
can also try hitting shift+F10 and nuke any processes that are stuck.

I did not wipe it. All I did is reformatting and installing XP. I will
try the Shift + F10!!

"Wiping" is slang for reformatting!

I'll check it out. I was stuck several times on 39, but another time
it went down to 25 minutes and got stuck again.

That could be because of bad RAM. :-(

Or it might simply be because you are doing it wrong. Follow the
directions here

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

and make sure you configure the BIOS to boot off the CD. When it's time
for the PC to reboot, *do not* press Enter if the CD is still in the
drive because at this point you need to boot off the hard drive!

Also, since you are choosing to perform a clean install, you will need
all your hardware drivers. And then you will need to reinstall your
programs. Hopefully you saved all the data and settings from your hard
drive, too!

I will try that in a few hours.

Wiping the hard drive before formatting it is unnecessary.

Also make sure that you have no unnecessary hardware connected to the
computer. Other than the monitor, mouse and keyboard you should have no
external devices connected to the computer when you install Windows.

I clicked on a link, and a software started scanning my hard disk! A
gray box appears, and asked me to press OK to scan or Cancel to abort.
I clicked Cancel, but the program started scanning my hard disk. I
stopped the program using Task Manager. This problem happened to me
with various websites. Did it happen to you? Thanks.

I fixed the problem by installing a new hard disk.
