I am having problem setting up my windows vista email account.
Although I can receive emails I can’t send them. I receive an error message
saying:†The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not
be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider. The
rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'trial',
Account: 'pop3.ukonline.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.ukonline.co.uk', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '550 relay not permitted', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79 The mailserver responded ;relay
not permitted. Please check the message recipients and try again.â€
I’d like to say that although the above error message was for a mail sent to
(e-mail address removed) I can’t send emails to any address.
I contacted my ISP (ukonline).I spoke with them over the phone and they
helped me step by step to set up an email account. Yet, the problem remained.
They advised me to contact Microsoft. In Microsoft website I could not find
anything that could help me.
When I log on to my ISP web site I can send emails from there but I can’t
send them from my windows mail program.
I have another computer which run windows xp home edition and I don’t have
such problems with sending emails. Why then I have such problems with vista?
It seems that there is something wrong with the vista operating system rather
than the ISP I’m using.
If anybody could help me, I would much appreciate that.

Such errors often mean that your connection to the server goes through
equipment belonging to two or more internet providers, not just one.
Such connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for
spammers. Webmail doesn't use port 25, and therefore wouldn't see
the same problem.

Is smtp.ukonline.co.uk associated with easynet.net? When I tried to
trace a route to it, I ended up at a machine with a name ending in
easynet.net.

What happens when you try to send a message to your own email
address?

Click on Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then
Properties, then Advanced. Under Outgoing mail (SMTP):,
click on the box before This server requires a secure connection
(SSL), then Apply. Click on OK and then Close.

Why you ask if ukonline.co.uk is associated with easynet.net? I don’t know
what is “easynet.net
Ukonline.co.uk in my only ISP. I don’t have two ISP. I followed your
instructions and then the following error message appeared:
Subject 'trial', Account: 'pop3.ukonline.co.uk', Server:
'smtp.ukonline.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '250 HELP', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 250, Error Number: 0x800CCC7D
Probably I need to adjust some settings in vista but what????
Since I don’t have such problems of sending emails from my other compuer
which runs on XP HOME EDITION it is obvious that the problem relates to vista
settings.
I don’t know if the problem has to do with the router. I’ve got a NETGEAR
router DG834gt.

I have a dell PC inspiron 531 which i bought it recently. When I send an
email I open the vista mail program and I try to send my emails from there.
But the email won’t send. I can receive email though. I don’t go to my ISP
web site. However if I log on to my ISP web site I can send emails from there
and no error messages appear. I can’t send when I use the vista mail program.

Port 25 and SSL are seldom used together. You might try turning off SSL
for the outgoing connection by clicking Tools, then Accounts, then your
email account, then Properties, then Advanced, then finding the box below
Outgoing mail (SMTP): and to the left of This server requires a secure
connection (SSL), clicking on this box and then Apply, OK, and Close.

I followed your advice. Again the same error message appeared:

Thank all of you for your advise. After a lot of research i found out that
the problem of sending out emails has to do with the router. The router which
i bought from Ebay was preconfigured for SKYBROADBAND customers. i'm not a
SKYBROADBAND customer . My ISP is UKONLINE. So it is as if I was trying to
connect to the internet through two ISP. Now i've got to buy another router.

I have never heard of a router that can only be used with one ISP.
Did you read the manual or go to the manufacturer's support site?

The problem is resolved . The router i bought from Ebay was preconfigured for
SKYBROADBAND customers. I bought another router and there is no problem.
Thanks all of you for your advice.

My Windows Mail program is not working properly at all, altho it used to. I
cannot open my e-mail in a window, cannot open any attachments, cannot
forward, reply to, or compose any e-mails except thru my Verizon web site. I
can only read e-mails thru the preview pane in my Windows Mail program. A
tech at Verizon tried to help and concluded it's a Microsoft Vista problem.
Is there a fix for this?

Such errors often mean that your connection to the server goes through
equipment belonging to two or more internet providers, not just one.
Such connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for

Is smtp.ukonline.co.uk associated with easynet.net? When I tried to

Sounds like your Windows Mail is corrupted, probably because of
using a non-compatible antivirus like McAfee or Norton.

The quickest fix is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
