i cant retrieve anything on the taskbar

well, i've xp sp2 , when choose to open files or the internet explorer and i
want to minimize them, it is known that they go down on the task bar but when
i choose to minimize them, i no more see them on the task bar, i must click (
shift + tab ) in order to choose which application i want to see. anybody
please can help me with this issue ?

open the file. do you happen to know what program I need?
