when i try to repair windows everything seems to be all right it boots from
cd copy all files and after restart starts the setup and comes the mesage
"file asms is needed for intalation" somthig like that and gives a path where
it must be. the path is glogaldevice\root\cdrom0\i386 what is wrong? i tried
it with winxp sp2 cd

You can't do a repair of xp with the SP2 cd,to repair, you'll need the original
xp cd.When doing this repair, all updates to xp are lost includeing SP1 and
SP2,
all settings and software stay intact.

I get a similar error message when trying to REINSTALL (not repair) Windows XP, using the only disc I have - the Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack, etc...

It said File ASMS is needed ... copy files from D:\1386 - but it just kept refreshing the screen when I pressed OK and forced me to cancel. I then got a "fatal error" message after that.
