Unable to find file on XP Home Ed. Repair install

I am attempting a Windows XP Home Ed. Repair install because I am trying
to move the HD with XP from Secondary to Primary to eliminate the Win98
drive. However, after the XP CD copies a lot of files and reboots, more
files are copied and then it gets to a popup "Files Needed" which says
that the file 'asms' on Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM is needed. Type
the path where the file is located. It shows a path
GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386
but that does not work. I tried changing it to CDROM1 and that did not
work. I have a DVD-R writer as primary and DVD-ROM drive as secondary.
The XP CD is in the DVD-R drive which I booted from. Yesterday I tried
the same thing using the DVD-ROM drive and got the same request.

What am I doing wrong? I am using an ASUS A7V266-E MB with AMD XP +1800
processor.

This can be caused when the system loses access to the CD-Rom drive during
the copy phase. ASMS is actually a folder, not a file. There are a couple of
things you can do:

1. Uninstall any Adaptec CD-burning software you have installed. (it has
been known to cause this)
2. Copy a 'flat' directory to the hard disk and run the setup from there. A
flat directory basically means to create a folder on your hard disk and then
copy the contents of the Windows XP i386 folder to this new folder.
