XP Home Edition Repair Problem

I am currently working on a Dell Dimension computer that wouldn't boot
after the computer locked up while printing a Word file. Using the Dell
XP disk I am tried to repair the OS. Now when the system boots a
message appears about trying to load the asms files. There is a default
path of GLOBALROOT|DEVICE\CDROM0\I386.

This default path does not work. I have tried using D:, E:, ... none of
these work either. Is there some way to get this to work? Otherwise it
looks like I am going to have to put the hard drive in another system,
save some stuff, reformat the drive, and re-install XP.

Thanks...

Hi Fran,
Try to be sure the CD-ROM Ribbon cable is firmley connected.fitted and not
loose from the connector to the motherboard and to the CD-ROM Drive.
Clean the Recovery CD and be sure it is n't dirty by the finger print or
greasy for the Laser beam to be able to read the CD correctly and run a disk
cleaner on the CD-ROM to clean the laser lense and Reading heads.
Read this link:
