I'm a Vista user. Windows Update and Windows Defender can't install updates.
I get error 80070012 in Windows Update and error 80070643 in Defender. Can
someone help me?

Hello Ermanno,

Are you on a large, managed network, where access to AutoUpdate is
restricted?

Is there a WSUS server on the network?

If the answer is yes, maybe this can help:

I hope this post is helpful, but we would
highly appreciate it if you could
rate the pºst, so we can keep the
community informed and saves somebody
else the hours of trawling through the web trying
to find a soluyion.

No, I'm home. This is my network. I don't understand. It worked in the past
when Vista was freshly installed. Itried many suggestions in this forum with
no luck.

Hi Ermanno,

I don't have Vista, so I have to go with the experience of the one who have
one.

One of the work around is provided by the user “cbk0111â€

This is what he (she) have to said...
I turned off the windows automatic update and unchecked options under
recommended updates. (control panel - windows update - change settings). Then
I checked for updates - and there were some. I installed them and then ran
the windows defender update and it worked. Don't forget to turn back on
automatic updating when you are done!

Please let us know if this work for you.

Good luck
