i can't get outlook to boot up on my pc

I am using xp pro on an hp pc. the outlook for emails won't boot up. the pop
and smpt settings are ok. the program was working fine previously, my anti
virus program AVG found some virusus and cleaned them off. did the viruses
attack my exe bat files. should i just reload the program. thanks
