I can't get Outlook 2003 to accept a task.

I called MSFT and they've emailed me the hotfix, however being a "novice"
with hotfixes, is there anything specific I need to understand prior to
installing. The ReadMe.TXT appeared to be a bit more technical than I am and
somewhat over my head. Can someone translate to English from "techy"?
Thanks!
p.s. the call to MSFT was indeed very quick and not at all
problematic...even for me!

Why don't you post the text you're anxious about? (Not the full readme, please.)

Thanks Sue - I re-read the readme file and it was the command line
instructions. However, in re-reading I found I just needed to double-click
the file to launch the MSP file. I installed OLKINTLff (re-booted and
re-opened Outlook) and I'm still not able to accept tasks that were sent
previously.
Any suggestions? (and thanks so very much for your thoughts)

What about new task requests? The hotfix might not be able to fix existing ones.

Great minds think alike, but no luck. I have both PCs available to me and
believe I sucessfully installed the hotfix on both (not sure how to tell, did
not receive and errors). I then created a new task and sent it. Same issue
upon receipt. I can only view the task in the inbox (not open in edit, etc.)
and while the "accept" button appears to work, the task is never updated in
the receiver's task list.
Suggestions?

You should file a support incident with Microsoft. If you have a retail copy of Office, there should be no charge. The information we have is that there are aspects of this issue that have been very difficult to track down and fix, so the hotfix doesn't work in all cases.

Early this year, we went through the original trauma with KB892843 and, after
uninstalling it, everything went well until a couple of months ago when the
problem recurred.

I called Tech Support and requested KB899340 as you suggested. After
several "tear my hair out" calls, they told me that hotfix would not correct
the problem. The offending Security Update is KB913807. Apparently, it
contains the old KB892843. I uninstalled KB913807 (there were 2 iterations
on my computer) and all is fine again.

Tech Support also told me that once KB913807 is uninstalled I could use
hotfix KB913695 to "eliminate the problem forever." I haven't done that yet.

Can you tell me more about your experience with KB899340.

Has anyone else installed KB913695? What has been your experience with it?

Thanks!

If you use AVG Free Edition Antivirus on your computer, you should disable
its E-mail Scanner plugin.

That plugin is causing this kind of failure.

I wonder if the newly-release V7.5 has that problem still.

The V7.5 doesn't cause this problem. The V7.1 does. I have tested both
versions.

I think there might be several causes for this trouble: Antivirus, Hotfixes,
etc.
