I can't get my computer to start Windows XP Toshiba laptop

Everytime I try turning on my computer it trys to boot but doesn't. The
second attempt it will go to the black screen where it asks if I want to
start from safe mode and other otions. It won't start from any of them. If I
choose safe mode, it instantly lists a page full of files or directories. It
freezes there and again later will try to restart again and continues the
madness

You should try to start your computer in Safe Mode. Unplug all
peripherals from your computer, other than your monitor, mouse and
keyboard. In Safe Mode there are several troubleshooting tools you can use.

Do you have any clues as to why your computer is behaving that way? That
kind of behavior has very many causes. Without any direction from you we
can only take guesses.

If you can't think of a reason for your computer's problem(s), and you
are sure that you cannot start your computer in Safe Mode, I would
advise you to show your computer to a professional.

Hi,
It won't start even in Safe Mode. I bought a Fix It Utilities CD, but it
won't start with it either. I was able to pull up all my files with this CD,
but I am trying to figure out how to save them to a flash drive and then I
was going to reformat my computer.

You need to post a copy of the Stop Error if possible.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration?

Do you need to recover data files? Do you have a second computer? If yes
is it a desktop or another laptop?
