I can't find internal 3.5" HD expansion bays?

I'm putting together a case and I need to add an extra 3.5" hard
drive. The problem is, there's no room for it.

I was able to do this a while back using a very handy internal
mounting extension bracket. Here's a picture of it:

The bracket simply attaches onto the current internal 3.5" hard drive
mounting bracket to allow an extra drive to fit.

I'm using the bracket in the picture above in another tower.

I spent the last 40 minutes or so searching for another one of these,
and I can't find shit. Every link leads to 5.25" side rails or an
adapter that lets an internal 3.5" hard drive mount in an external
5.25" bay.

Maybe I just don't know what this is supposed to be called.

I'd appreciate any leads!

Stinky - decent cases start around $20. The bracket in the picture above
seems to be for a specific case, though several manufacturers use similar
brackets. Thus, if you could find one, you might get lucky enough to have
it work in your case. I suspect it might be easier just to get a new case
that works, though. Unless you have a really expensive case or are attached
to it for some reason. See what I mean below. -Dave

This is a halfway decent case with room for (6) total hard drives. The two
"external" 3.5" bays are only external if you use them that way. In other
words, you can mount a hard drive in those slots and leave the cover on
them.

Make one. A small amount of sheet metal, metal shears, a drill and a
file ( to dull the burrs.)

I have done it several times.

That is a quick mount bracket from a 'server' 'AT' tower. Not made
anymore. I have a few, all in use, that are single drive versions...

BUT, I use 'chimney strap' that costs about $0.49 for a 6 foot roll.
Get it at any hardware store. Both in galvanized, and plain steel
strips. They are 6 foot long, rolled, and 3/4" wide, 12 gauge steel,
perforated every 1/4"! there are two sizes of holes alternating, on each
strap. Bend two, so they can take as many drives as you like, in 'U'
shapes!

I've often thought that there's no reason why you couldn't just
stick a hard drive anywhere inside a case where there's an open
space, and where the cables will reach it. What do you need a bay
for, really? It just holds the drive in place. You could do the
same thing with a little bracket of sheet tin, or some coathanger
wire, or duct tape, for that matter. You'd just have to make sure
the drive wasn't going to flop around when you move the case.

Are you looking for something specific? If not, why not just use the
cage from an old case. Most are removable (sometimes with a little
work), and I'm sure you could figure out some way of securing it to your
current case. I've got a box of similar things out in the shed for case
mods.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. To jump to the end
of the story, as a result of this I need a bone marrow transplant. Many
people around the world are waiting for a marrow transplant, too. Please
volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Go to www.compusa.com
enter 294973 in search box
should return 3 Bay Driver Extender
which are two metal plates which attach
under a 3.5' bay for additional hard drives

Good luck.
