Only one way to downgrade from a failed or illegal (invalid unlicense) or
successful upgrade, and that's to format the drive and do a clean install.
This will, of course, destroy all the data on the drive.
The quickest way to back it up is to leave it where it is, get a new drive
(I get 80-gig drives for about CDN$50, so it's not an incredibly expensive
proposition) remove the old drive, install the new one with all the settings
the same, and then re-install XP to that. Once it's working, re-attach
your old drive and simply copy the files over.
This will *not* reinstall your old programs - you'll need to do that
manually. But there's no question that you will have your old data.
