I've gained an operating system !

I ran my XP CD to repair an Explorer problem and now I've gained an operating
system.

When I switch on it now gives me the choice of selecting (1) 'Microsoft
Windows XP Professional' or (2) 'Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup'
Unfortunatly it defaults to the (2) unless I select (1). How can I remove (2)
so I go back to going straight into XP please?

Use the System Configuration Utility.

Click on Start > Run then enter "msconfig" w/o the quotes.
Click on OK to launch the utility.
Click on the Boot.ini tab.
Click on the "Check All Boot Paths" button.

Right-click on My Computer, select Properties. Click on the Advanced
tab, then click on Startup and Recovery. At the top is "default
operating system". Either use the pull-down to change the selection
to (1) vs (2) to change the default, or click on the EDIT button to
manually edit the boot.ini to make (1) default and delete (2)

Many thanks, it fixed the problem immediately. I'm getting better with
fixing my computer now I'm retired, but I get caught out sometimes! This is a
great way to contact really knowledgeable people.

Thanks for your suggestion, I used the other one as I'm more comfortable
with 'tabs' than 'boot.ini's'.
