I am on XP w/ SP2

I launched Word. I can not quit it or even force it to quit. the close box
does not work.
Nothing associated with it responds. I tried to restart the computer but I
can not. I can not log out, shut down or restart. I can still use Explorer
and other programs.

I am a Mac person. We have a force quit command and a force restart. there
must be some kind of
equivalent commands on windows. what is it, please?

I am about to pull out the battery and the plug

Hi Chris,

Since you're a Mac person, I'm giving explicit directions here in case you
don't know about this feature in Windows. It sounds clunky to accomplish
when you first read it, but it might work to solve your problem.

Try holding down the control key, then pressing the alt key and holding that
down, then pressing the delete key. That combination will bring up the
Windows Task Manager. Make sure that you're on the Applications tab and
you'll see the list of programs running. Highlight the Word Program and
press the End Task button at the bottom. That should shut the program down.
Then reboot and hopefully you'll be ok.

Try using the Task Manager program. It can be accessed by pressing
CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, by right clicking the taskbar and selecting "Task Manager"
from the menu that appears, or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete (If you have Fast
User switching turned off, then Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and choose the Task
Manager button)
In Task Manager, go to the Processes tab, select WINWORD.EXE, and click the
End process button. When the warning appears, choose the Yes button
