I Asked A Few Days Ago About

How To Delete A "burned-in "popup

It was a porn ad from God-knows-where. I remember the ad
popping up ?????

I remember deleting it, and then finding half-a-dozen full
screen porn adds, which I ALSO deleted, which made me go
delete my cookies and unplug my modem

But that popup wouldn't go away.

I asked for help.

I got a few interesting answers, and I downloaded several
programs and utilities.

Nothing did the job. I let one goodie run for two hours. But
with 300 Gb of hard drive, that is a never-ending task.

We're right back to something I said several weeks ago.

You reach a point when you've tried this and you've tried
that. Nothing's worked.

I probably-- by the clock-- spent 5 or 6 HOURS on this
problem.

I finally-- yesterday-- gave up.

I fdisked, formatted, and reinstalled.

It's a hassle, but I know how to do it, I'm all backed up,
and it only takes a couple hours.

AGAIN, folks, there comes a time when 5 - 6 or more hours
of trouble-shooting and tweaking are hours/energy down the
drain.

I'm formatted, re-installed, and back up with a CLEAN
MACHINE.

That's how I solved my problem, and I HIGHLY recommend it.

You're right, sometimes a clean install is quicker than trying to clean
everything up.

This is a little silly and after the fact, but did you try changing
your desktop picture?

Next time don't visit porn sites.

Thanks for the kind words.

I was having an argument a few weeks ago with my engineer
son. He was saying, "Well, gee, dad! First, I'd _____, then
I'd probably _____, then I'd very likely _____, then ..."

I interrupted him gently. "And how long will ____, ____,
____, and ___ take you, BY THE CLOCK?"

He calculated, "safely, if I do everything right-- in my
spare time (he's still in high school)-- a couple of days."

I chuckled; "darling, I can do it MY way in a couple of
HOURS! And I'm back up, and you're still scratching that
pretty head of yours!"

He frowned. "I get your point, dad!"

"Ah, the innocence of youth!"

He may have the book learnin'.

His dad has 25 years' experience!
