All the bits are updating to the servers - just taking a little time.

Re-install and it should update with no problem now.

I was able to update on the AM of 14 Feb EST with no problems.

I agree - since I haven't tried to install it yet, I am going to WAIT on
Microsoft Updates which should be out soon - and maybe MS will re-think this
and release a workable version of Defender soon. MSAS AntiSpyware still
seems to be working on my pc's so I am not going to rock the boat just yet.
These are just Beta, so guess problems can be expected - that's why they
are testing it. We are supposed to report the problems as they arise.

I uninstalled it and did a clean up with McAfee Quick Clean and CCleaner.
Then I did a system restore to the point before I installed it. MSAS was back
with an install wizard. I let it install but not IT won't work - It won't
load properly, although the sytem tray icon says it's active. Ii guess I'll
have to uninstall it too now.

Hi,

I suspect WD to use svchost to update. Check your FW for
a svchost denied entry.

I am using McAfee Personal Firewall plus with smart recommendations enabled.
It has not alerted me to anything regarding SVCHOST. I did allow permission
for Windows Defender Interface to access the Internet. Still did not get
updates. Now I have tried to install the critical Windows updates and 1 of
them failed to update:Kb913446. Got error code 0x80242006. Tried online help
but that system failed also. IMHO this is a screwy day for Microsoft.

The critical security update has had a problem today. This isn't related to
Windows Defender, or Microsoft Antispyware.

Go to the above link and download manually from the appropriate OS version
link. I've done this on XP, and it worked fine, and I've heard the same
from others.

Verified with MBSA. Still, it has not been a good week in general.
