I am trying to ANIMATE AN EXCEL CHART by bringing in different series at
different times. I have PP 2003, but when I right click and select custom
animation, it doesn't allow me to animate by series.

Try choosing a simple animation like Wipe. Then try the series again.

Which options are available is dependent on a combination of the animation
effect and the type of chart.

Kimajj,
Have you applied an entrance effect to your chart? It all depends on the
type of entrance effect you apply. Some effects only allow the chart to be
animated as a whole (one object). Others let you animate in different ways.
So try some, double click the animation in the task pane and have a look in
the list next to group chart by (don't know the exact wording).
